Personal Vision, Part I — Gary T. Erbe (pronounced err-bee) is an artist of exceedingly high standards and exacting vision. Erbe coined the term “Levitational Realism” for his unique and highly distinctive approach to Trompe L’Oeil painting. When asked to select the art for barebrush for the May and June 2010 N*des-of-the-Month, he felt his personal view was not a problem. Erbe pointed out that he enjoys all types of art and many different approaches. Erbe especially likes work which displays both originality of vision and skill in execution. He selected Cubism Glass by German-born New York artist, Guenter Knop to begin the month. He was impressed by California artist, Michael Newberry's Venus. Another work Erbe liked for its approach was Reclining Nude by Peter King of New Mexico. Erbe appreciated Passionate by Ben Riviere-Nazerano of London, UK. Terry Hinkle's Hold On was an instant pick. “I like the colors,” he said.
The placement of the art between the two calendars (May and June) reveals an interesting dynamic. Barebrush founder, Ilene Skeen noted that looking at the two calendars together, the overall feeling of May is serene. Reassured by Russell Morgan and Leaning by Emily Stedman both show couples in quiet situations. There is a feeling of relaxed solitude, except for a few lively pieces like Primavera by Janet A. Cook, Zebra by Michael Apice and Mardi Gras (the baby's out of the cake) by Stephani Fuller.
The 31 artists represented in May, 2010, in day order are: 1* Guenter Knop, 2 John Luce Lockett, 3 Adrienne Mills, 4 Cynthia Angeles, 5* Michael Newberry, 6 Harald Grote, 7 Alana Clemens, 8 Janet A.
